I am using Office 2003, system Windows XP Pro.
Why does word start each new line in Upper case.?  It is most annoying as you have to delete the
first leter and insert it in lower case.  Any resolution to this problem?

Desbet try this,

go to Format
Auto Format
Options Tab
Auto Correct,
take the Tick out of "Capitalise first letter of Sentence"

or goTools
Auto Correct Options
Auto Correct
take the Tick out of "Capitalise first letter of Sentence"

I think that the problem is that you are hitting return at the end of each line.
If you do as Jutta said you will find the you have to capitalize at the start of a new sentence. Having said that Jutta is far more advanced in these matters than I.

True Desbet,

if you take the Tick out  as I suggested, you will get the Result your looking for, but  you will find that you have to capitalize at the start of a new sentence, as Dayko points out.

Just a thought, is your Option to "Wrap to Window" selected?
this means you can go on typing without you having to press enter to change Lines, it will type automatically to the next line,  and also will only capitilize the "first Letter" of your Sentence (not the first Letter in all Lines in a single Sentence)

Check here: Tools>>Options>>View Tab, put a tick in "Wrap to Window" down the bottom of Dialogbox.

This will also keep your first letter minimized if you use Bullets or Numbering Options, unless you Press your Shiftkey to Capitalize the first Letter, the same applies  if you wanted to type a small amount of Text one underneath the other without using Numbering or Bullets.
