Hi
I have a question on a couple of things.  I have a Vista HP system when I got this system I also bought Spy Sweeper and Norton.  I didn't like how Spy Sweeper was working so I put in Avast4 and close down my spy sweeper but have my Norton running.  Also the firewall I'm using is the one came with the computer.  Do I have enough to protect me from Viruses.  Is there anything better then the Norton that I can get free instead of buying.  Also I would like to setup my Avast so that when I send mail outbound it will check for viruses.  How do I go about doing all of this.  I sure hope that I'm making sense to all of this.  If I need more to protect please let me know also about firewall.  Many thanks for all the help I can get.

Well your running two Anti virus programs that not a very good idea, one should be remove. I suspect Norton is a trial version that lasts for 30 day or so. Out of Avast! and Norton I would keep Avast!.

As for a Firewall, Comodo Firewall seems to be the best free version and is a lot better than what are currently using.

For more protection put the Spy Sweeper back on, as a paid version it is one of the best spy-ware removal programs (you'll probably find it runs better without Norton running on your system.) Also you may want to consider installing Malwarebytes too.

As for the Email scanning on outbound email, I don't have Avast! installed right now but a lot of people on this site do and I sure one of them will point you in the right direction.

If your ever in the market for a paid Anti virus/Firewall take a look at ESET Smart Security

Thank you so much for answering my problem this is what I have done so far I put the Spy Sweeper back on I downloaded Comodo Firewall and shut off the firewall on the computer, also I installed Malwarebytes also.  About the Norton all I did with this is I permanently shut if off but haven't taken it out yet.  This Norton was purchase when I got my Vista  HP the renew is due soon.  If anyone out there knows how to setup Avast for the outbound email I would appreciate to know how this is done.  Have I done this ok all systems seems to be working ok. Oh the Malwarebytes and Comodo Firewall ran and then I needed to reboot system.  Many Thanks if there is something that I have done right please let me know.  Many Thanks

Hello Arleen

1) Left click on the Avast blue a-ball icon (i.e. the one with a on it) in the system tray to show the Resident Protection Settings
2) Click on the DETAILS button
3) In left pane, click on INTERNET MAIL provider
4) In right pane, click on CUSTOMIZE
5) On the tabs POP and SMTP tick the checkboxes beside "Insert note into clean messages" options
6) Confirm the change with OK button(s)

This will give a message on the email that both the outbound and inbound email has been checked for viruses and is clean.

Hi
I want to thank Jimbob and Neonwizard for all the help.  I did take out Norton and went to my Avast to do what Neonwizard said to do.  But when I click on Avast left like I was told it (Instant Messaging, Network Shield, Outlook/Exchange and P2P Shield so still went into and check on Details and it didn't say Internet Mail I know I should know these things and I'm not a nerd like I was but still not that good with computer but anyway I went to Customize and I check out outbound and inbound but they didn't have POP & SMTP.  But many other things was checked so I wasn't sure really what to do and I feel the best is not to do anything if not sure until a person finds out.  I hope that I have explain myself.  I used Incredimail for my mail I don't know if that makes a difference or not.  Again many thanks for the help.

You may want to run Norton Removal Tool just to remove the extra stuff left behind after uninstalling Norton. Norton products tend to get deep in to your system and it's better to try and remove as much as possible.
