I have been using the free version of the above programme for years. Few days ago my PC froze and a technician found an infection by a virus, stating the free version of AVG is no good. Suggesting , of course, to buy a pay version.

What are your thoughts on this, please

I use and pay for ESET Smart Security 4 (Antivirus & Firewall) and its great but the free Microsoft Security Essentials has a good detection rate and is worth a look.

I have installed Microsoft Security Essentials on a number of machines I have built for people and I am impressed with it and would recommend it for the general user.

Thank you both. Decided to stick to the free version and installed MS security, deleted AVG beforehand to avoid clashes.   Hope this is a good move. Do you agree ?

I have it running on my Netbook and it seems to work well.
