I wouldn't trust a 2TB drive yet... especially if your PC runs more often then not.  Maybe look at two and RAID them? (I would 2 x 1TB and RAID though..)

I've seen more dead then alive 2TB drives... almost the same story on the 1TB unless your going to an enterprise quality SAS drive but in a R1 you have some redundancy.

In my "Old" system I have been running 2x1Tb Seagate SATA2 drives now for 12 months and haven't had any problems ... I know their was an issue with some earlier 1Tb drives when they first came out but they rectified that.

This new system I am running the 2Tb XT Seagate SATA3 drive and I have another 1.5 Tb Seagate drive for Acronis backup of the 1st so I am fairly well covered as well as that XT drive has a 3 year warranty so I am fairly confident ... the XT drive was $355 so not looking at populating my system with more than that one for now and really just biding my time waiting for Solid State drives to fall in price.

Solid State drive

Me too, I've seen the speed difference between a 15000rpm Raptor and a (good) SSD and it is awesome but as you say the price needs to at least half first.
