Hi
Is it at all feasible to copy my entire "c" drive including the operating system to a external drive and hang on to it, then, after "c" dies which it will one day install a new drive and copy the lot back, QED
Bit hypothetical I know but with usb drives getting cheaper I am just curious as to why not

If the external hard drive is big enough then yes using an imaging program like Ghost, Acronis True Image, DriveImage XML you can.
