First of all, you cannot edit a pdf document in Adobe Reader.

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&rlz=1B3GGGL_enAU267AU269&q=pdf+editor+free&aq=1&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=pdf+editor&gs_rfai=

Good luck.

Thanks Paul. I'll have a look at that.

I haven't got Adobe Reader. I have Adobe Acrobat albeit an old version. Adobe Acrobat 5.

In that case you should be OK. But I can't tell you exactly how.

Open the PDF in Acrobat then on the Toolbar select "Tools" then "Advanced Editing" then "Touchup Text Tool" now just go to the text that requires changing and change it, save and you done. If the Text does not change then thee pdf may be protected.

Thanks neonwizard.

The pdf is not protected, it's just a common page, but I have spent ages and cannot seem to do it.

Selecting with the Touchup Text Tool seems the same as ordinary selecting and I cannot type on to the page.

Any ideas?

pinkcloud,
try the following, but you wont be able to replace Text entirely,
you will just get a little "Popup" under the  Text you try to Replace, with your Name and changed Text, when Mousing over it.
You might have to update Adobe Acrobat, if you can not see these Functions.

In PDF click on "Comments" in Menubar on Top, point to Text Edits, click on "Indicate Text Edits Tool, and look at Screenshot under Replace Text.
Click on Comments again point to Text Edits, scroll down and click on "how to indicate Text Edits..." this will open a Side bar with some Help on how to.

neonwizard, you are a star!

It works perfectly now, thank you.

My version is different from yours and does not have an Advanced Editing feature. I did find the Touchup Text Tool but somehow could not get it to work but seeing your video it does now. Thanks again and thanks for taking so much trouble to make the video.

(thanks also to Jutta)

Strange Thing Neon, (having Adobe Acrobat 7.0.9 Pro installed) if I go Tools-Advanced Editing-Touchup Text Tool, then highlight Text, and start typing as in your Video I get a Popup as in Screenshot, and am unable to continue.

Came to  the Conclusion, that every Version might be different.
I have to load the Touchup Text Tool then to overcome getting the above Popup  click on "Select Tab" in Formating Toolbar, then Highlight the Text I want to replace, thus getting the same Results as I described to Pinkcloud above.
Text has a red Line Through it, and when mousing over it a little Popup with my Name and changed Text appears which one can not see in Screenshot.
However I can copy and Paste PDF into Word, and change Text to my liking.

Jutta doesn't this mean just that the font in the PDF you are using is not a font installed on your PC?  This facility is the same on my version of Acrobat.

Thanks everybody for help.

I have a second page which is a hard copy mainly text but with some small pictures.

I need to put this in my PC maintaining the existing layout, text and pictures and then add a paragraph.

What is the easiest way to do this please?

neonwizard I tried to do this by scanning the page and saving it as a PDF and trying to use the Touchup Text Tool but it most definitely would not work on this.  Can you help please?

pinkcloud,
try the following
File Save As your Hardcopy as Microsoft Word Document to your Desktop,
double click on it to open,
select View Normal , and Read Layout,
click to start typing,
Save As .doc.
Go File Print Preview, click on shrink to fit "if your Paragraph does not fit to well!
PS. I would be very careful though not to breach any Copyright Laws by copying a PDF.

Thanks Jutta but had tried this and did not work as layout and pics were lost which is why I think I need to do it by PDF unless neonwizard has a better suggestion?

Thanks for the tip about copyright laws but these are my pages.

How do you save a scanned image as a pdf file?

It is an option provided when right clicking on the scanned image.
