I have 3 computers, one running Vista Home the other two running XP (1 x SP2 & 1 x SP3). On none of these computers does the "Prt Scr" key do anything. I am assuming that I do not have to press the Shift key to make it work. Even if I do press shift, still no result. The help files say I can capture the screen by simply pressing "prt scr", or capture the active window with "Alt + Prt Scr". Wrong! nothing happens with anything I do. Is there something I am missing, or are all my computers defective? macca

I paste mine into Paint or Word. pinkcloud

Thanks Pinkcloud. I have never used "Prt Scr" for anything and did not realise that "prt scr" was simply a copy to clipboard process. I was acually looking at it as a possible solution to your problem with printing a zoomed area ("Paint Problems"). I can't quite see why that process doesn't provide the answer to your problem. Copy the zoomed in area (using prt scr.) and paste it into Paint. Then trim out any extraneous edges of the pasted image by using the select tool to capture only the area of the pasted image you want. "Cut" or "Copy" the selection, then paste it into a new Paint window. Go back and look at my reply to your "paint problem" post where I described how to reduce the size of the white paint area. Good luck with the camera. macca

Thanks Jim I have used Prt Scr key and Paint for years (more than I would care to mention) and find it is simple, works well and is adequate for my needs but it’s always good to try something different so I will try your link thanks. I had not realised that macca was still looking at my Google Earth Printing thread (or Google Maps as it was) when it was found that a screen capture did not make great quality for what I needed. macca very kindly sent me a Google Earth PDF of my Google Maps link and this printed off very well. But, it would not print a zoomed version and reverted back to the original when print is selected. I had given up on this as I am very pleased with what macca provided but if anyone knows how to do it it would be useful. I found a link on Google which dealt with my exact question but could not get it to work. http://www.ehow.com/how_5396824_print-zoomed-documents-adobe-reader.htmlpinkcloud

It's also probably worth mentioning that while PrtScr captures the entire screen (or two screens in my case), Alt+PrtScr captures only the active window. Can save a lot of editing.

That remark was for general information.
If I had an answer for you I would post it in the relevant thread.

Debatable. This is actually macca's thread about the PrtScr key. You have a couple of your own threads going to do with printing problems, as well as taking over this one. I was merely adding some extra information to macca's original question.

macca's PrtSCr (this) thread is about his and mine joint efforts to print our zoomed PDF. It is a separate issue from the other printing threads. pinkcloud

Yes you did Jim and thank you again. Looks great. macca and I found that a screen capture did not make great quality for what I needed and were trying to print it directly off the zoomed PDF. A link posted above should have fixed it but could not be made to work. I have asked macca to leave working on it now but would always like to hear if anyone knows how to print a zoomed PDF. pinkcloud

If this is an ongoing requirement you might consider getting a scanner. Personally I don't think I've ever seen a screen capture that's 100% quality.

Pinkcloud If you want to print a particular area of a PDF file to a normal inkjet type printer, zoom in to the area you want, click "File" "Print" and, when the "Print" interface panel comes up, select "print current view". From the "Page Scaling-Scaling Type" drop-down options, pick "Fit to printer margins". Make sure you check "auto rotate sheets" if you want the largest area printout, otherwise it will print to the default page orientation for your printer, which is probably portrait. This procedure only works if you are printing from a PDF document. macca

I still have a conscience about all of the work you are doing. I will have a good try at this. Thanks again. It is a real pleasure to have people like you on here. pinkcloud
