For various reasons I would like to password protect my computer at home.

I am running XP - is an admin password enough to ensure that guests can't log on? My aim is to make it unusable to all except those with password - zilch access to anything.

Is this possible and if so how?

Thank you

Go in to user accounts, find your account, make a password and remember it, then press the WIN + L keys the lock the computer, to login again use your password. You can do something similar with the screen saver but I think this is better for you.

Thank you - one further question. Currently I am admin - no other profile. Will this method ensure that there is no internet use available for guest?

If you lock the system with WIN + L they would need the password to go further, there is ways to circumvent a passwords but I'll doubt that would happen on your home computer.

Why don't you think having the password screensaver is good enough neon? It's easy to use and what many people use at work. Is it easily disabled?

No nothing wrong with the screen saver password just most people allow the screen saver to active in it's own time and can leave information on the screen until the screen saver actives, with WINkey + L or CTRL+ALT+DELETE (Lock this Computer) you have to active yourself before you leave.

any password on a windows system is easily disabled. you just need to log on into safe mode (which requires no password, and from there you can disable anything) as i read somewhere, windows has all the security of a wet cardboard box.

Smenkhare

When I have had to access a client's computer and they have not left me a password I have used that method to gain access.   Any kid on the block will know this dodge!!
