I had Microsoft works but its playing up a bit - I know Neon talked about one he had discovered which was very similar to word - I can't remember the name of it.  Can someone help me out here please - I need to get a word processor that will work.   thanks

I have used it on a few computers I have loaded for people and it is a great program ... not as bulky as Office either ... really good find that one ... thanks Neon.

thanks guys for your quick replies as usual.  I actually found Abiword - which as I'm sure you know is a small word processing package which suits my needs so I downloaded that.   Many thanks anyway - I know I can always find help from this site

You can also try Open Office, which is similar to Word and has programs similar to Excel and other MS Office software

i thought about that but its a big download.  I only want the word processing.   I downloaded abiword then I uninstalled it cos people couldn't open an attachment I sent so I'm back to square one now.

Assuming the people you're sending documents to have Word, then you WILL need Open Office or Star Office, which produce Word-compatible documents. As you have discovered, Abiword doesn't.

OK. Add Kingsoft to the above list of Office-compatible suites.
