I've never quite understood what is meant by multiculturism.
Haven't we always been a nation with many cultures?

Yes Bella your right in a Way, but when my Husband and I Immigrated to Australia in 1958, Australia had a "White Australia" Policy, meaning only " White Christians" are allowed in.
If you go back into History first it was the English who were encouraged to Immigrate to Australia, long, long  after that it was Germany, Netherlands, and Scandinavia, but they still did not have enough Immigrants,  to build the Infrastructure, etc. for Australia , because the English stopped Immigrating.
The Government then closed a grudging Eye, and let the Italians,and some  Croatians, the Croatians who run away from the Communists in their Homeland at the Time, all were also " white and Christians", but were not considered "white" at that Time.
Non English speaking Immigrants their Qualifications were not recognised by Australia, as they only wanted People with strong Backs for manual hard Labour.
the Handful of Chinese in Australia from way back from the Gold Rush Days, well most of them got sent back to China, or at least their Wives, and Kids did, to the Husbands dismay.

These Days one can go down the Street in Perth, also in Hospitals etc., and play a Game of  trying to  spot a White Person, that is the end Result of  Multiculturalism.

can remember when the italians, and germans , as the maltees came here in the 1950,there was trouble, but they didnt bring there troubles with them,a lot started on the snowy dam project,,then
they become the best farmers here in the east back then, fruit and vegi famers,sugger farmer,, from victoria ,,NSW , AND QLD
IN FACT there are still suger famers here in north ,,qld ..australians, with there  ITALIAN  names ,, 1950  2011 ..they payed more then there way,
and welcombed here as AUSIES,

today,, the one comeing from the middle east are bringing there troubles with them,trying to change every one to muslim,TO there violent ways
 boat people from countries have gone on a rampage, burning , there refuge that we ,,provide ,, the pax payer has to pay,,FOR

its  not the fiftys,, where new comers where welcombed,, its now  become a problem,

if I watch any TV, it is usually ABC, or SBS, but on ABC they have some wonderful Programs about the History of Australia, it realy opens ones Eyes, how things have changed.
There was no Dole, or Refugee Payments for "us", just hard Work, but we did not mind the first 2 Years, because we were young, and silly.

It is bad for all People concerned, all these ill Feelings, were one reads that Muslim Fathers kill their Daughters because they  talk to white Boys, very sad indeed.
