This is Any Video Converter. It is free and I have used it but can't remember if it has restrictions.

Videos from YouTube (and most video sites) are in the .flv (stands for Flash Video) format. I have a few shareware converters, most of which I have got for free, either from Giveaway Of The Day - http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/, or DotTech - http://dottech.org/freebies-page/. Some to look for are Wondershare Video Converter, uRex Video Converter (my current favourite) or iSkySoft Video Converter.

I haven't tried Any Video Converter, but I will, because I have their audio converter and it is excellent.

If you want to convert to a format that will play in a DVD player connected to a TV, I have found .avi to be the best format. You will need specialised burning software - some of the basic ones won't do such DVDs.

Also, when converting you need to pay attention to output quality. You can't improve quality, but I have encountered converters with default settings that actually lower quality.

Have a look at http://www.freemake.com/ and download two programs there "Freemake Video Downloader" and "Freemake Video Converter".

You can do everything just with Freemake Video Converter but Freemake Video Downloader gives you more options when downloading from Youtube etc..

*When setting up both programs use the Advanced Setup and remember to uncheck "Install Toolbar"*
