Talking to a friend recently, comparing which internet security apps we have, she said that I do not need Ad-Aware as have Spywareblaster running in the background. Below is a list of my apps:

SuperAntiSpyware
Comodo Internet Security
SpywareBlaser
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
jn16 Powertools
Ad-Aware

Your advise would be greatly appreciated.

JV16 PowerTools isn't security software it's a "system tune-up utility" as for what you have on your system:

SpywareBlaster
Malwarebytes
Comodo Internet Security

should be enough but behaviour is the best security you can have. Keep away for dodgy site (if you can crap does happen) don't open email attachments make sure to patch your system with updates

Your friend knows not of which he/she speaks.

For starters, SpywareBlaster does not "run in background". SB functions differently to any and all other antimalware applications in that it is completely passive. When updated it writes registry entries that prevent malware installation, so there is no need for it to run continuously. It is in my opinion an absolute must-have tool, but it will NOT interfere with any other application.

Arey your SAS and MalwareBytes free or paid? There is no point in running the free versions of either in background, as only the paid versions provide real time protection. I have the paid version of SAS running, and use MalwareBytes as a scanner

Ad-Aware is not as popular as it once was. I haven't used it for several years, but the free version does claim to offer real time protection, so in your shoes I'd stick with it (with the proviso below).

Don't know much about Comodo, but looking at the website it's pretty comprehensive. If it's as good as it claims, I'd say that it and SpywareBlaster may be all you need.

Check SpywareBlaster for updates regularly (weekly) and when you get an update be sure to Enable All Protection.

Many thanks for your input Paul. Do regular updates on all the virus protection.
