I have just imported my contact list from Outlook Express to Outlook, and the names are all listed as Contacts.
However, when I hit the "To" button on a new message, the  "select names" list is empty.
How do I rectify this?

thanks,

Leigh I have just Imported my Contact-list from my O.E. to Microsoft Outlook to test , and everything is working fine.

Have you tried clicking on "Go" on top in Ms.Outlook>> in the drop down List "double" click on the "Envelope Icon" in front of "Mail", this opens a new Mail Window, now try and click on "To", this opens the "selected Names" List,  including Names.

Hi, Jutta
what you suggest doesn't work - double clicking the mail symbol doesn't open anything!

So, I re-imported everything from Outlook Express, and the message comes up that "0 of 66 addresses" was imported!

Try this,
           Drag Address Information to Outlook
It is possible to move individual or groups of WAB entries to Outlook by dragging them. To do this, follow these steps:
1.   On the Start menu, point to Find, and then click Files And Folders. In the Open box type *.wab, and then click OK. Double-click the WAB file from which you wish to move addresses. Open Outlook if it is not already open.
2.   Resize Outlook so that the WAB and Outlook are visible next to each other on the screen. Ensure that the Outlook Contacts folder is visible in the resized Outlook window.
3.   Select an entry from the WAB. Drag it to the Contacts folder. A new Outlook Contact form will be created with the information from the WAB entry. Click Save and close.
NOTE: Press SHIFT and select contiguous groups of entries or press CTRL and select non-contiguous entries. You may want to do this for selected Contacts or small groups.

thanks, Tassie, for your suggestion.

However, a search produces no WAB files. I do have a back-up of  my address list from Outlook Express, which is in .dbx format - can I do anything with this? (Microsoft doesn't recognise this format, though.)

.dbx files are email files (emails contained in folders) not address files .... Example : Inbox.dbx ... contains all emails residing in your Indox.

Try going to C/ Programs / Outlook Express and looking for the wab.exe file and that is your address book.
