I have a web page with a link to a MS Word document. IE ooens this document within IE.
As a result, when I target a hyperlink in MS Word to open in a New document, I find the link opens in the same IE window.
Is there a way to open the Word document in MS Word and not in IE?

Sorry but I do not understand your query, if you click on a hyperlink surely it will open in your default browser! Try right click and select Open with and see what happens.

To clarify:
I have created a set of worksheets in Microsoft Word, which are all linked from a web apge. I require my students to work on these worksheets and print them. (These students do not have the internet) The Worksheet uses forms and opens in IE rather than Microsoft Word, which is probanly the source of the problem.
At certain points in the form I have links for students to learn some content before proceeding.
I want the links to open in a new window so that students can refer to the resource without losing the form. But thugh I set the target as New Window, IE still opens the links in the browser replacing the Word form.
So I need to have both documents open at the same time: the Word worksheet and the web resource.
Hope that explains my problem. Any help is appreciated.
Daphne

It shows how to hyperlink in a Word document. I know how to do that. What I need is code in an html document that will open a Word document in MS Word, not Internet explorer

This may help if you are using word to create the Web page. VERY IMPORTANT!!! If you create a link to a word, excel or pdf document that's part of your website, IT MUST BE INSIDE THE MYWEBSITE FOLDER before making the link. You CAN NOT LINK TO DOCUMENTS ANYWHERE ELSE ON YOUR COMPUTER. This is one of the most common mistakes made by students. ie: Linking to a word document that was saved inside the My Documents folder. This link will not work after you upload your website to the server since there isn't a My Documents folder on the server! Full tutorial here: http://www.library.kent.edu/page/10131

Thanks for the link
I have a web page with links to word documents. All I want is for the link to open in MS Word, NOT in Internet Explorer as it does now.
Is there some html code that opens the program MS Word.

daphne, have you "Googled" or contacted Ms.Help, well I have spend Hours doing so trying to help, but sorry to say, I have just posted the best I could find on the Subject, as it seems there is no such Thing you are looking for.
Now if I would still be attending Tafe Classes, I could ask my Lecturer for you, but alas have given it away when the Education System turned from bad to worth, whereby the Teachers or Lecturers (as they are called now), just dish out Handouts, and leave "one to it", while they are chatting etc. in the Passage!
