Provided my computer (XP sp2) has access to power it starts & closes down normally but if the power is turned off at the power point then the computer boots immediately the switch is turned on without waiting for the On button on the computer to be pushed.

Any ideas please?

Check your Mother board manual for Bios Setting re power management.

Tassie

I reset the bios then made sure my Power Management setup & other settings were exactly as recommended by the motherboard manual (m/board GA-8SRX SiS 645 AGPset, now almost 6ys old). Checked in Control Panel / Power Options - all appears to be correctly set but computer still booting as soon as power point switch is turned on.

Considering the age of the system I suppose I should be grateful this is a minor problem seeing that I can still use the computer normally if I don't turn off the power.

Thank you for your reply

Some to try, right click My Computer select Properties then click Advanced then under the "Startup and Recovery"  click the Settings button look for Automatic restart and remove the tick click OK.

Now see if the same thing happens.

6 year old computers did have a 'wake on LAN' set as default ... might want to find it in BIOS and disable it.

Neonwizard & Jimbob

Ran Trendmicro Housecall & no threats

My m/board doesn't offer "wake on LAN" however it has "PME Event wake up" which I looked up through Google then disabled.

Problem solved!!!!!!

Many thanks for your help once again.
