Neon,
I have recently had "DriveCleaner" and "ErrorSafe" trying to run or install on my computer (Win XP)
I am using Norton AV, Comodo firewall and AdawareSE.
Do I need anything else to prevent the above causing any problems?
Regards,
Johnno

You could install Comodo BOclean, it runs in he background all the time and stops Trojans and Malware, install Spywareblaster and Spybot - Search & Destroy these programs immunize you buy blocking sites from install Spyware/Malware on you computer, you can also use Spybot - Search & Destroy to do a can, Finally install AVG Anti-Spyware and use this to do your regular scans. I know it seems a lot of programs but no-one program can fully protect you so you have to have a layered defence against all the nasties.

Neon,
Have installed and run all you reccomended.
I noted that each picked up a few thing that the others didn't.
A small problem now is a Windows Security Alert (icon in notification area showing X) that my Norton AV status is unknown. (screenshot attached) As far as I can see all is in order with Norton.
Your advice please?
Regards,
Johnno

Hi Neon, Tassie.
Re my system and AV etc.
Windows XP SP2 is correct. AV is Norton Corp. Ed. ver 7.60.926. Firewall is COMODO. Have AdAwareSE and Spybot installed.
Have also installed AVG Anti Spyware and COMODO BOclean. Disabled these in msconfig but made no difference (still got above re AV)
While in msconfig I noticed an checked item with NO Startup Item or Command info, looks suspicious to me. (see attached)
Your advice would be welcomed.

Sure Neon,
Have to do it in 3 sections (with XP msconfig can't be expanded as it can in say 98SE)
What do you want to see more of exactly?

uncheck these: dumprep 0 -k , realsched then reboot, after the reboot remove the blank one tick and then reboot see if anything stops working, the rest seem fine. I had one of theses too and still to this today I couldn't figure out what it was.

As for the Symantec AV as long as t is install and reported as install you're ok just go into the Control Panel click the Security Centre icon then on the left at the bottom click on "Change the way Security Center alerts me" remove the tick from Antivirus.

Thanks for your help.
