I am a total novice at this but would like to do more with my photos, I have some lovely coloured  family photos that I would like to make black & white, does anyone know of a program that would do this for me please

I would think the Gimp would do that Gimp or PhotoFiltre

Yep. Gimp can do that. just load your photo and select "grayscale"

I just downloaded Gimp, but cannot find where it says to change foto to black and white or grayscale.??

Not sure if it's the same in the Windows version as the Mac version but try this: Image>Mode>Greyscale

Hi Neon, thanks, I just checked it, it is greyed out, so that means I musn't b able to change it to black and white. Will try another program.

I downloaded Phot Filtre, working good, have tried the sepia as well. Great Program. Thanks to all.

If it is greyed out try copying the image layer Layer>Duplicate Layer then Image>Mode>Greyscale

Sorry Neon, but I couldn't understand what u r saying. I tried, but everything is greyed out. Would u mind sending me a screen shot please. In the meantime I downloaded the other program.

A sceenshot is not really gong to help with this one, the other program may be easier for you.

Thanks Dayko, I will have a look at it, but at the moment, I'm finding that the other 1 I downloaded is doing the job. Thanks to everyones' help., much appreciated.
